Surface Design Study Pt

Patterns and textures have always had a place in my heart, I have hundreds of photos on my phone, and it was hard to narrow it down. So here are some of my favourites I pulled inspiration from, some have been taken locally, and others from the other side of the planet.

This is a post by an artist on instagram called @juliabbini. I like her geometric patterns, intricate details in the shapes, that appear organic. The balance of negative and positive space, as well as the high contrast of the blue and white.
This photo was taken in Bali outside of Ubud, in a small community where I stayed with a local family. This door led into the lovely little place I called home for 5 days. It was a place a dreams. The door was captivating with its exquisite details and craft. I wish I had taken a closer shot of the texture.

The below photos were taken in Bucerias Mexico at a little tourist shops. I like the repetition of shapes to create pattern here. Both geometric and organic shapes.

Taking a walk around the area of Sunalta I saw this. It feels a little Stephen King, however there is something here that I am curious to play with. I would like to layer and repeat this pattern in a way. I look forward to seeing how I can manipulate this with the tools in Rhino.
I particularly like this shot as it has multiple shapes layered on top of each other. The layer of organic shapes in the background, with the rectangular grid, followed by the tight circle pattern in the foreground.

I love plants, leaves and fall, I see pulling simple shapes from this and layering them in a way to make a pattern, and then enhancing with colour.
One of my older phone photos taken a couple years ago at South Centre mall around Christmas. My friends mom does all the decorative design installations there and I love this shot. The linear perspective, and the ethereal feeling standing below this, and thought it was clever to place this under the skylight. Not sure how this will translate in rhino for me. UPDATE: I was not successful with this in Rhino.

Here's where I ended up...

I found this to be rather tricky.... I struggled with a few things on this but, my intention was to layer shapes and grids as the pictures above had inspired me to do. I feel it needs some fine tuning with object snap.... Lots of trimming in this one too, le sigh.

Inspired by the star installation above I layered many stars on top of each other than began adjusting with array curve, array polar and rotate.

This one is my favourite of the three. I started to play with Mirror, Array Linear, and Array Polar.  I would like to get some colour and contrast into this and see it come to life. I think I will need to go in and trim some shapes to add more depth as well.

Castle Project

Hey there! Not going to lie, this was an overwhelming introduction to Rhino... I was sweating this quite a bit, but managed to squeeze this little beast-y out.  I'm liking the geometric shapes, open panels, and the defiance of gravity. I decided to leave this piece organic and not make edits and changes after our first instruction, as I look forward to seeing the evolution of my work itself as class progresses. ✌

Structure Collab Final Week

And we've made it. Half dead, and really sleepless. I am glad to see that this project has come together, although I am not sure we are ...
